You know what encouraging your kids to pray about their situations does?
It lets the Holy Spirit convict them of their ways, not me. I’ve been trying to let God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit deal with them lately, cause, whew! This Momma been losin’ her mind..
Its hard to remember to be a seed planter and a shepherd, and not the all-controlling crazy person that I naturally am. (yep! I know!).
And wouldn’t you know, I had TWO kids, not just one, get their acts together and get ready this morning, even though they didn’t get their way. PRAISE JESUS! No pouting, no fight, no kicking doors or sabatoging someones toothbrush in a fit of anger. No one knocked over my coffee because they think it will hurt me (cuz it always does, oh coffee!).
They did their thang. The right thing. And then because, ohdearLordthankyouJesus, he’s been working on me, I gave them their way.
Not because they deserved or earned it. They knew they’ve been wrong, but because in God’s perfect timing, he reminds us of his grace. He showed me how to model that this morning. I think Faith cried a little. They both prayed the whole way to school.
Grace is enough. But without seeking out and allowing the conviction of our wrong doings, we can’t see how much we need it and don’t deserve it. I’m so blessed to know Jesus loves me enough to not leave me in my mess. Or them.
“8for at one time you were in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”
15Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do no be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:8-17
